ROMANCE LITERATURE

Published with the help of the Subdirección General de Promoción del Libro, la Lectura y las Letras Españolas of the Spanish Ministry of Education and Culture.

This series 'is a most welcome contribution to the cause of making Spanish literature more widely available to non-Hispanists.' BHS All books are in Spanish with a facing English translation.

*The introductions place the work in context, both in the writer's literary circle and in its historical background.
*The original texts are the result of careful scholarship and are often prepared especially for these editions.
*The new English translations aim to be faithful to the original and 'offer a considerable challenge to the translator, since the reader can easily compare and contrast original and translation on their parallel pages.' BHS.
*The notes and commentaries, often extensive, explain the difficulties and allusions in the text.
*Maps and illustrations are included where appropriate to make our books as useful as possible to the student, scholar and general reader.
